Types Of Motorcycle Insurance Available In Kenya

The two classes of motorcycle insurance are available in two major types. These are:

  1. Third-party Insurance
  2. Comprehensive Insurance

Third-party Insurance

This is the minimum legal requirement in Kenya. It covers damages caused to other people and their property, but it does not cover damages to the insured motorcycle or the rider.

Comprehensive Insurance

Comprehensive insurance provides the highest level of coverage. It covers damages caused to other people and their property, theft, and damage caused to the insured motorcycle.

It’s however, important to note that the rider is not covered on either of the two types of cover but the passenger or goods are covered. The rider should therefore get a separate cover called a personal accident cover.

Now that that’s out of the way, I know you’re now curious as to how much it costs to get a motorcycle insurance cover.

How Much Does Motorcycle Insurance Cost In Kenya?

Factors To Consider When Choosing Motorcycle Insurance

When choosing motorcycle insurance in Kenya, there are several factors to consider, including:

  1. Coverage – Consider the level of coverage you need based on your budget and the value of your motorcycle.
  2. Insurance provider –  Research different insurance providers to find one that offers the coverage you need at a reasonable price.
  3. Excess – Check the excess amount for each policy. This is the amount you’ll need to pay out of pocket in the event of a claim.
  4. Discounts – Look for discounts that you may be eligible for, such as no claims discounts or discounts for taking additional safety measures such as installing a motorcycle tracker or alarm system
  5. Payment Options – Check whether the insurance provider offers payment options that suit your budget, such as monthly, quarterly, or annual payments.
  6. Customer Service – Consider the quality of customer service provided by the insurance provider.

Conclusion

Motorcycle insurance is a must-have for anyone who owns a motorcycle in Kenya. It provides financial protection in the event of an accident, theft, or damage to the motorcycle.

When choosing motorcycle insurance, consider the level of coverage you need, the insurance provider, excess amount, discounts, payment options, and customer service. By taking the time to choose the right insurance policy, you can ride in peace knowing that you’re protected.

Remember, accidents can happen to anyone, but having adequate insurance coverage can help you minimize the financial impact and get back on the road quickly.
