They recently introduced a BimaTap service that they have been pushing very hard with TV, Radio, and Social media adverts. This service allows you to apply for a one-month insurance cover for your vehicle directly on your phone and have it sent to your email. The service is available for both comprehensive and third-party covers.

One huge win for this service is that it eliminates the need to go to their physical offices and cuts off brokers. It’s very convenient and fast.

In this article, we shall focus on the 1-month third-party car insurance cover.

How To Apply For The 1 Month Third-party Car Insurance Cover From Directline

The BimaTap Service is available via USSD Code *478#. Note that this service requires you to have airtime.

It’s a 10-step process that takes less than 2 minutes to complete.

Step 1: Start By Dialing *487# On Your Phone

After you’re presented with the send instructions tab Select 4 for Insurance.

Step 2: Select 1 for BimaTap Third-party

On this tab select 1 for BimaTap Third-party and click send to proceed.

Step 3: Enter The Vehicle Registration Number

Here enter your vehicle registration number and click send to continue.

Step 4: Select The Car Make

Select your car make. If the make of the car is not available here you can select other and hit send to continue.

Step 5: Select The Insurance Start Date

Select the date you want the insurance to commence. Select 1 for the cover to start immediately or you can select 2 to select a future date.

Step 6: Provide The Insured Details

On this tab select 1 if it’s your car or 2 if you’re applying the cover for another person.

I’d recommend you always select 2 so that you can ensure you input the correct insured details.

Provide the insured full name. Kindly note that this is the name that will be indicated on the insurance certificate.

On the next tab provide the email address. This is the email address where the insurance cover will be sent.

Therefore, ensure you provide a working email and one you have access to.

Step 7: Accept Directline Assurance Terms & Conditions and Initiate Payment

Select 1 to accept Directline Assurance terms & conditions and initiate payment. You can read the terms and conditions here.

Step 8: Confirm Details

You will be presented with a tab that contains a summary of the information that you have provided, If the information is correct enter 1 and click send to proceed. If you need to change anything click the relevant number to make the changes.

Step 9: Make Payment

Now that you have provided the necessary information and you have confirmed that it’s correct you can then proceed to make the payment.

Select 1 to pay 

You will receive an STK push on your phone prompting you to pay ksh 1,000 to Directline Assurance Co. LTD. Simply enter your M-pesa pin to pay.

Once the payment is successful processing of the insurance cover will commence you will also receive a text message from Directline notifying you that the cover will be ready shortly

Step 10: Check Your Email For The Insurance Cover

In two minutes or less, you will receive the insurance cover on your email address.

Print a colored copy of the insurance cover then visit a Total Energies service station for a sticker and stick the cover on your windscreen.

    1. Hi Paul, Apologies for that. Kindly note if you paid directly to directline insurance you need to follow up with them. However, they seem to be experiencing some kind of system downtime as they haven’t been processing covers for a few days now

    1. If you paid directly to Directline you need to follow up with them. We only process covers which payments have been made directly to us via the above indicated paybill number.
